Last updated: 8/16/2025

Key Concepts:

  • Expressions can be expanded using Distributive Property: (a(b + c) = ab + ac).
  • Expressions can be multiplied using the FOIL method: multiply the First terms, then the Outside terms, then the Inside terms, then the Last terms.
  • Common terms can be factored out by reversing distributive property.

Skills Covered:

  • Expanding expressions using multiplication.
  • Using the FOIL method to multiply expressions.
  • Rewriting expressions in factored form.

Example Problems:

  • Expand: (5(x + 2)); Solution: (5x + 10)
  • Expand: ((x+3)(3x+1)); Solution: (3x^2 + 10x + 3)
  • Factor: (4x + 12); Solution: ((x + 3))
