Key Concepts:

  • Real-World Problems: Word problems indicate relations that can be translated into equations.

Skills Covered:

  • Defining variables and setting up an equation from a word problem.

Example Problems:

  • A gym charges a $50 enrollment fee and $30 per month. After how many months will a member have paid $200?
    • Equation: (50 + 30m = 200)
    • Subtract 50 from both sides: (30m = 150)
    • Divide by 30: (m = 5) months
  • A triangle has a perimeter of 40 cm. Two sides are 12 cm each. Find the third side.
    • Equation: (12 + 12 + x = 40)
    • Simplify: (24 + x = 40)
    • Subtract 24 from both sides: (x = 16 cm)
