APA = American Psychological Association

IRB = Institutional Review Board = reviewers of all psych studies (to ensure ethics)

Why ethical? = to protect the human subjects (there's a different board for animal protection)

Informed consent: you need to tell the Ps what this study is about and let them agree to be a part of the experiment (including their rights to leave the study with no conseqence whatsoever); *exception: tests used as study don't require informed consent (they won't cause much harm)

Parental consent: children Ps cannot agree on their own, their parents need to sign for them; those older than 16 might have a waiver sometimes

Debriefing: you need to debrief the Ps after the study is done, in particular you have to make sure that Ps know about all deception involved during the study (and why it's necessary to deceive)
